ok, so i was talking to some lovely mutuals @atlasblue85 @livesbetweenpages about these two scenes and it got me thinking about something that i’ve been mulling over for a while; what eddie means when talks about buck making everything about buck.

turns out i'm not one for brevity (oops) sooo tldr at the end.

imo the most pivotal buck lines from the wanna go for the title scene (apart from the aforementioned) are: a) Look, I’m sorry that I wasn’t there, Eddie… I should have been there. b) If you’re not gonna be honest with Frank, at least be honest with me. c) …you prefer to work it out in the ring. d) You don’t think while you were going through your phase, just maybe, you were throwing your punches at the wrong guy? 

the way i see it buck is saying (in order) a) i consider it my responsibility to be there for you and to take care of you (and chris). i’m sorry i failed. b) please, let me be there for you c) i see you. i understand that fighting is/was therapeutic for you. i’m not judging you for it d) if fighting is how you work out your issues, then i think you should fight me. i’m the one you have a problem with. i’m the one who failed you.

pivotal eddie lines--apart from Not that you didn’t deserve it, but I wouldn’t do that. i’m not even gonna break down the pivotal buck likes (other than to remind anyone who’s still reading about I didn’t mean to out you. <- bdjdnd 💀). everything he says boils down to, i couldn’t stop myself from taking care of you if i tried. 

y’all remember buck introducing eddie to carla? remember that? that’s how it started and this ⬆️ is how it’s going. actually the facetime calls is how that’s going but i won’t get into that. 

conclusion/tldr: buck promised himself, before/around the time that he introduced eddie and carla to each other, that he’d always take care of eddie. because he can. because he wants to. and because it’s the natural, easy, obvious, damn near biologically imperative thing to do. the problem is that eddie doesn’t want to be taken care of. he’s convinced himself that he doesn’t need it or deserve it. so when buck waltzes in and says, lol lmfao rofl even. you’re lying to yourself. you do need someone to take care of you. you do deserve it. and i’m gonna do it whether you ask me to or not… well, that sets eddie on edge. buck is challenging a long held belief of his, a belief that he’s not ready to interrogate. so he finds a way to push back everytime buck brings attention to the self-effacing, self-sacrificing, self-critical, self-punishing elephant in his subconscious. and one of eddie’s go-tos when he’s pushing back is, this is about you, this is about your need to fix things but i don’t need fixing. and the way i see it, when eddie says, stop making this about you, he means, stop bringing attention to the fact that i might not be as self-sufficient as i believe myself to be.

back at it again with the crack theories!! it's what i do best, what can i say.

initially, when i was going through the demons in the ars goetia, i was like "huh, dantalion sounds a lot like dandelion. i wonder if that's going to have to do with us." and then i got further in my list and saw it was subaru's demon and there went that theory. and THEN i read more about dantalion and holy shit dude

anyways this is just a post going a lil more in depth on subaru's stigma, demon, and where i think he fits in the story

so first off, the ars goetia is fucking bonkers. in my professional opinion (i'm an opinionated nerd and a former humanities major), all grimoires that were written around the 13-15 centuries (and were widely publicized) are so goofy. the like, "modern" witchcraft thing is so funny to me because these experts were just making things up and making up their rules and all wildly contradicting each other in every book. i love the drama

but that's not what you're reading this for so i'll get off my soapbox

several of these demons are listed in a bunch of grimoires, but the tkdb wiki (however reliable) lists the ars goetia, so we'll go with that description

as far as i can gather, the rankings in the ars goetia are meaningless lol. each demon has their title and their legions and satan rules over all. each demon is also listed as the things they were meant to teach, because the purpose of having these demons in a list was for summoning purposes. you would summon a demon, wear its seal so you could control it, and ask it questions based on what it had dominion over.

the demon's other abilities were what i was really interested in, especially in relation to subaru. the first one listed is the ability to declare counsel on anyone; basically he can read minds. he knows anyone's secret thoughts and can also apoarently change them to his will.

this one applies directly to subaru's stigma. his stigma is the ability to read residual thoughts from people and objects. there is zero doubt in my mind that if we were to enhance his stigma, he'd be able to read active thoughts. or more! luca summoned a whole ass creature with his and all he can do is guard or whatever. who knows what he could do? change thoughts maybe?

the next ability listed isn't as relevant, "cause love and show similtude", but the NEXT part: "show the same by means of a vision." could subaru, in theory and while using us, project the memories he's seeing so that everyone can see them as well?? i think so!!

the last part is also just so subaru, "many faces," meaning he can appear as anyone, man or woman. ngl, i thought subaru was a lesbian the first time i saw him and got so excited, but this is definitely referring to his ability to act. we saw a bit of it in episode 15 where he auditions for the haunted house and then acts like SUCH a freak in that room. love him.

there's also a part about the demon always being depicted holding the book but idk what that means yet, will revisit later

subaru's abilities are so fascinating and honestly he has so much potential to do some crazy shit with us boosting his stigma. i do think he fits aomewhere into my theory about what's going on with taiga's memory but again, i don't have a solid theory yet just because of how little information we have.

the main theory thatni have about subaru is that i think he did have something to do with taiga's memory issues, and i do think he's the type of person that could be blackmailed into helping the faculty and work against the ghouls. his stigma would allow him to get an insane amount of information on the other ghouls simply by touching things discarded by them. the galaxy express area is full of lost items, it'd be a field day for him. who knows how much he's found out about the campus just by grabbing things in there?

maybe he doesn't leave his room anymore because he found out too much last year. maybe he doesn't want darkwick to use him any more than they already have. who knows?

what we do know is that subaru is a squishy little freak and i'm so fascinated by him and his story. can't wait for the next sinostra chapter to come out and (hopefully) get more info on taiga.

Dr Bruno White & Experiment 1354 [Theory]

I was writing a completely different theory in relations to MOB's latest trailer, when this realisation hit me like that hardest ton of brick ever.

You guys know, recently I studied the Ch.4 ARG for my story writing. I wanted to know more about Dr. White for writing his character, and in one of the emails from Harley he says: '[A bad memory]' and I interpreted it as Harley saying White has a bad memory. I think it's actually Harley having bad memories of White, and what he did to him after he became 1354.

Eg. The full email the above reads:

(The emailer asked)

Dr White?

(Harley replies)

'[Eyes peering from behind a pane of glass] He always did have a certain drive, didn't he? [A bad memory] But what good did it do him? None. He's dead.'

I initially thought the in brackets stuff was Harley, but it's EYES. Two eyes. He only has one as, 1354. But eyes peering from being a glass pane would refer to how he was being watched in an observation room, like the other experiments.

This robot-man has trauma. Trauma from Dr White.

When asked by another emailer what he remembers, all he says is:

(Harley replies)

The footage is archived (more bad memories) I won't dwell on it.

We also know throughout the email, Harley speaks negatively about White, implying he doesn't like him. (I think I mentioned somewhere,) my theory that they had a less negative relationship pre-1354, and I'm still inclined to believe that based on his whole:

White?! White is that you?!

He sounds hurt, and him complimenting White's drive could show one of his few lingering positive memories of White. Cause, like, take it from me, as someone with trauma relating to a person I had a good relationship with once in the past, when I think of said person, none of those positive memories come to the surface. Only the traumatic ones. (I'm fine folks. This was years ago, I'm healed & good now. This was just a great example of the feelings Post-1354 would have towards... the abuser?).

We also know the admin account & password belonged to Dr. White (, with the password being a mocking jab at something Harley use to say all the time). So White was fully in control over Harley. Sure. That's one reason to have some trauma, but...

I also was looking at the red text again, with this new point of view about Harley & White in mind. I think the red text is 1354's thoughts being displayed on a screen.

Leith says in the 1354 tape:

You'll be like an open book to us whenever we want.

I think he meant this quite literally. That's why he tells Harley he can fight or give in. It doesn't matter because they can read his every thought regardless.

More evidence to back this up, with the red text being Harley's thoughts:

I can see you. You aren't welcome here.

And

They can see. away. Don't think it. Hide it from yourself. rwk

(idk what 'rwk' stands for. I couldn't really find anything solid).

Also, really interesting that one of the things he says replies is:

I know my name.

Annoyingly, I can't find the email this came from, to give it context. Interesting regardless. To forget one's own name would almost suggest a level of brainwashing, maybe? IDK.

Not sure on the whole brainwashing thing, but it's a fun idea.

If we assume the first red text we start with is the last time anyone accessed Harley's thoughts (that being White), then their final conversation is intreaging, because it would suggest Harley was more bitter than White (I mean... hard to be bitter when you weren't the one turned into a brain in a jar, lol):

I just woke up but y’all have posed some super interesting questions and good for thought.

Personally (and I often feel to my detriment) I spent most of my time as an artist being an artist on Instagram. Now, if you know anything about it, you know it’s a hellhole for artists. Initially I hadn’t really gone into it with the intention to be noticed or what have you, I had started my art account as a way for my friends from all over the place to be able to see what I was doing without having to text a bunch of people individually. This was in 2019. Once Covid happened and everyone moved online, it just kinda exploded from there?

The problem here is that Instagram is really really competitive. I’d say most visual art spaces are highly competitive, but bc Instagram relies on an algorithm, you gotta bust ass to make sure anybody ever sees your work. Even your own followers. Most artists I personally know (before what’s it called.. bluesky??) either used Instagram or Twitter to showcase their work based on audience type and ig also based on their preferred social platform. It sucked major ass being over there if I’m being completely honest. Visual artists are just as much of a slut for comments as fic writers are, but often times people are more apt to like things to share them, but not add any kinda commentary. Which doesn’t help me at all bc then it’s like “did anybody else like my weird/fun/beautiful/harrowing art”??? Surely they must have bc they pressed the lil heart button, but people hit the like button for a hundred different reasons. That doesn’t really tell me what they liked about it or if they even enjoyed it at all!

Another thing is it’s super easy for followers to just up and leave you bc you no longer draw the thing they like. I’m sure this may or may not be the same for the fic writers, but one of my biggest gripes was how people were super easy to leave artists behind when artists wanted to explore or fuck around with a new thing they liked. A new art style, a new show they wanna do art of, a new color palette etc etc. And, in the fanart world -and this depends entirely on specific fandoms (I never ever had this in the Star Trek fandom but I have seen it in a handful of others I participated in), to go back to the competitive thing- you gotta be posting top tier shit all the time for anyone to care about what you’re doing at all. That’s the way observing people treat you, that’s the way other artists sometimes treat you. Again, this is not true for every artist or every fandom, but I’ve seen and dealt with it enough times to know it happens. It makes making community really hard bc it feels like you’re racing against people you just wanna be creating with. This is why I’ve always felt far more comfortable being an artist amongst fan fic writers bc, at least from my perspective, it’s less competitive and more about enjoyment of the act of creating and sharing. I since left art instagram in 2023 to kinda do my own thing before making my way back to tumblr.

My art has always had narratives attached to them. Nobody really knows this bc I don’t talk about it, but all my pieces have stories attached to them. I just think that way. When I wanna do a sketch or a painting I always have the story of what’s happening behind the single image (which is usually why I incorporate music and lyrics into everything I do). It just feels more natural to do that amongst and for people who utilize their artistic time and abilities to write.

For inspiration, my stuff is usually comes from “wouldn’t it be funny/ sad/ fucked up/ interesting if…”, music, and fanfic. Fanfic is one of the bigger ones since when I read I kinda see things play out like a movie or mv?? So as you guys are writing, I’m seeing all the images. Which I always found funny bc when I draw my own shit, I see the “writing” behind it. Idk if that makes sense but I always thought of visual and written art as deeply interconnected.

And yes, as always, societal pressure and capitalism suck fuck 😔😔

so idk anything about writing fanfic, but do yall like.. do commissions? How does it work? You’re just self-fueling all your ideas/ getting inspo from conversations and things you see? I know people do gift fics bc I’ve been deeply honored to have fics gifted to me, but has anyone ever been paid for a fic? Is that a thing?

Any Interest in Beta Reading The Water Dog?

(Just the first 100 pages, approx 30k words)

I'm mostly wondering if there's any interest in reading and giving me initial opinions/criticisms/notes/reactions, so that when I re-draft I have a stronger idea of what a reader is seeing in the work.

Here's the basic plot overview:

A letter arrives from a woman Sybil doesn't know, asking her to travel to an island she's never heard of, to care for a grandfather she's never met. But there is something about Calda, that lost little island, that calls to Sybil, sinks its claws in and won't let go. What begins as an unwanted obligation transforms into a supernatural mystery with a dangerous secret at its heart, and a monstrous romance that has no intention of letting Sybil leave alive.

This story is set in 1930, and is predominantly horror-romance (although we haven't really gotten far into the romance by the first 100 pages, sowwy) so expect some tension and disturbing imagery. There is one chapter with specific trigger warnings related to allusions sexual trauma.

This is a novel so it has a different structure to my serialised fiction on here, which is more episodic and insularly focused on the romantic elements.

some stories are written precisely to elicit strong emotions from the reader INCLUDING negative ones. some stories and characters are meant to be upsetting, they are meant to challenge you and make you uncomfortable!! when a story makes you feel Big Feelings sometimes you are meant to sit in those feelings and ask yourself why! fiction is a great space to explore these emotions in a safe environment. you, as the reader, are meant to think critically about the art you are enjoying and that includes asking yourself questions like why has the author presented their art in this way and what are they trying to tell me. and then you get to have fun picking it apart and figuring it out and deciding what, exactly, the art means to you.

I've come to realize that there's only a certain amount of dumbassery I can take from people in romantic relationships, both in media and IRL before I start getting annoyed.
